No, Matthew’s Center is a year-round special education private day school licensed by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and accredited through the Virginia Association of Independent Specialized Facilities (VAISEF). Our program is tailored to meet the needs of students aged 5-22 years, who exhibit self-injurious or aggressive behaviors that impede their growth academically, socially, and/or behaviorally.

High school graduates receive an Applied Studies Diploma.

Matthew’s Center provides Related Services in the areas of Occupational Therapy and Speech/Language Therapy.

Matthew’s Center does not have an Outreach program.

Do you go into the community?
Matthew’s Center students have multiple opportunities for learning outside of the classroom. Class field-trips occur regularly as well as other experiences for Community-Based Instruction.
Do you serve lunch?
Students bring their own preferred food items for lunch. School staff are available to assist in preparing lunch for students. If a student is eligible for Free or Reduced priced lunch, then, Matthew’s Center will coordinate with the student’s Local Education Agency to secure food items for the student.
What if my child must take medication at School?
Numerous staff at the Matthew’s Center are certified with Medication Administration Training, which allows for students to receive medication at school. During the intake process, parent(s)/guardian(s) will complete the necessary paperwork for students to receive medication.

Local Education Agencies (LEAs) are responsible for placing students at Matthew’s Center.Is an IEP a requirement?
Yes. Students are placed at Matthew’s Center through the IEP process.Do I pay tuition?
When a student is placed at Matthew’s Center, the student’s Local Education Agency is responsible for tuition payment.How do I tour the school?
When a student is referred to Matthew’s Center, school tours are coordinated through a student’s Local Education Agency. Private tours are not available unless a referral packet is received.Are there any reasons my child would not be accepted?
When a student is referred to Matthew’s Center for placement, our admissions team reviews the student’s educational records, conducts parent interviews, hosts school tours, and meets with the student’s teachers and support staff. Throughout this process, our team may decide Matthew’s Center is unable to meet the educational, social, and/or behavioral needs of the student. In some instances, a student may be waitlisted due to current enrollment capacity.Does School provide transportation?
Local Education Agencies provide transportation services for students attending Matthew’s Center.Do/Can parents provide transportation?
If parent(s)/guardian(s) chose to provide transportation for a student, then, the student’s Local Education Agency must be informed as well.
